Across the country and around the world, various celebs took to Twitter with news of their New Year's plans—or got caught by photographers as they bid a private goodbye to 2012. Where were Hollywood's finest when the ball dropped on Monday night?
Beachy celebrations might just be the first major trend of the new year, with a lot of celebs choosing to spend December 31 in more tropical climes. Channing Tatum and wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum watched fireworks in St. Barts, while Lea Michele and Cory Monteith both tweeted pics of soft sand and palm trees from an undisclosed location.
Nina Dobrev kicked off the year from the other side of the globe, as she vacationed with friends (some of the furry variety!) in Thailand. And two other famous couples favored a pair of tiny islands for their Eve: Taylor Swift took the stage in Manhattan for a year-end performance in Times Square (and got snapped by paparazzi delivering a midnight smooch to boyfriend Harry Styles), while Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson reportedly ducked out of the spotlight for a cozy night on the Isle of Wight.
The only celeb who definitely wasn't anywhere near the ocean on New Year's eve? Ashley Tisdale, who went the winter wonderland route and ended her year with a ski vacation in Mammoth.
